It is a professional certification, not a government license. Whether a specific employer, regulator or tender accepts it is their decision, so check with them if it matters for your role.
Yes. As of August 18, 2026, UKAS has extended PECB's accreditation under ISO/IEC 17024:2012 to include the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor personnel certification schemes, and PECB is the first certification body in the world accredited by UKAS to certify people who implement and audit AI systems. The accreditation applies to PECB's certification scheme, not to training courses or to reconn.

Yes. The exam is taken online through the PECB Exams app and supervised remotely, so you sit it from your own location at a date and time that suit you. You need a device with a camera and a stable internet connection. See PECB's online exam guide for the technical requirements.
The exam has 80 multiple-choice questions, and the passing score is 70%. It is open-book, but it includes scenario-based questions that test whether you can apply the standard and audit principles, not just find them. Domains 3 and 5, audit principles and conducting an audit, carry the most weight. The course details show the full breakdown.
PECB tells you which domains to strengthen. Your reconn package includes one free retake, which you need to use within 12 months of your enrollment date. PECB does not limit the number of times you can retake an exam, but it limits the time between retakes, and retakes beyond the included one follow PECB's own rules and fees. The course follows PECB's structure of four training days plus the certification exam, and you work through it at your own pace.
