reconn is an authorized PECB partner delivering the EU AI Governance Professional course as Self-Study, 100% online. You study PECB’s official courseware and sit the proctored exam on the PECB Exams app when you are ready. The course teaches you to apply the EU AI Act in practice, and prepares you for the PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional credential.
Your window: your exam attempts, certification application and certificate must all be completed within 12 months of your purchase date.
The PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional credential shows that you can apply the EU AI Act in practice: determine whether and how it applies to an organization, classify AI systems, put governance, risk, data and documentation arrangements in place, and monitor compliance across the AI life cycle.
The EU AI Act is the European Union’s regulation on artificial intelligence. It applies different obligations depending on the risk of the AI system and on the role an organization plays, such as provider or deployer. The certification is built around that practical work, from mapping where AI is used to responding to incidents.
The focus is governance and compliance practice, not AI engineering. You need a fundamental understanding of AI or digital technologies, but you do not need to be a data scientist or a developer.
Organizations that build, buy or use AI in the EU market need people who can tell which of their systems are in scope, what each one requires, and who is accountable. That work sits between legal, compliance, security, data and engineering teams, and it needs someone who can speak to all of them.
The EU AI Act sets penalties for non-compliance, so the people who run this work are being asked to show more than awareness. The credential is built to show you can do it.
The EU AI Act is being phased in and rules differ by country and sector, so organizations should confirm their current obligations and deadlines with qualified legal counsel.
Not legal advice: the credential shows professional competence. It is not a license to practice law, and it does not by itself make an organization compliant. See the course details for the agenda, exam format and credential requirements.
The course is right for you if you will be responsible for EU AI Act compliance or AI governance, or if you advise organizations that are. If your goal is to build or audit an AI management system under ISO/IEC 42001, the ISO 42001 courses are the better fit, and the two work well together.
Teaches you to work with the EU AI Act itself: scope, roles, risk classification, obligations, documentation and oversight.
Teaches you to build and run, or to audit, an AI management system. See the Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor courses.
Know the limits: ISO/IEC 42001 is a voluntary international standard. It is not a harmonised standard under the EU AI Act, and neither the standard nor a credential demonstrates legal compliance by itself. Together, the Act and a management system give an organization both the rules and a way to run them.

Your trainer
Shenoy Sandeep
Founder of reconn · Dubai, UAE
Shenoy Sandeep is the founder of reconn, an AI-first cybersecurity firm based in Dubai, UAE. He has 20+ years in cybersecurity, focused on offensive security and threat intelligence, and 10+ years in enterprise AI, AI governance and data protection. He is one of the world's early PECB-certified AI professionals and also works with ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, ISO 22301 and GDPR.
Not a slide reader. A practitioner.
The course content is PECB's official courseware, so the curriculum and exam are identical whoever you buy from. Shenoy's part is the support around it:
Adapted to your background. From tech, you go deeper on tools, terminology and how AI systems work. From governance, risk or compliance, he keeps it in plain language and focuses on how to run the implementation project.
From your trainer until you clear your exam, within your 12-month enrollment window.
Drawn from hands-on AI governance, security and ISO implementation work, so the standard makes sense outside the slides.
The Lead Implementer course is right for you if you will be responsible for setting up and running an AI management system, or if you advise organizations that do. If your job is to assess an AI management system independently, the Lead Auditor course is the better fit.
PECB's course materials describe 6 to 12 months from the start of the project to the first cycle of audits and monitoring, and shorter for a limited scope in a less complex environment. Your timeline depends on organizational maturity, scope, regulatory pressure and top management support.
want to build and run an AI management system inside an organization, or advise others who do.
want to assess and verify an AI management system, or work in audit, assurance or certification. See the ISO 42001 Lead Auditor course.
New to ISO/IEC 42001? Start with the ISO 42001 Foundation course. Want both credentials? See the Lead Implementer + Lead Auditor bundle. Impartiality still applies: auditors should not audit a management system they implemented.
Want hands-on help implementing ISO 42001 in your organization, not just the certification? See our ISO 42001 implementation services.
Regulation note: ISO/IEC 42001 is not a harmonised standard under the EU AI Act, and certification does not by itself demonstrate legal compliance. The credential shows implementation competence, which organizations can use as part of a wider governance program.
PECB's official courseware (400+ pages), delivered 100% online through the MyPECB portal. Study at your own pace, any time, from anywhere.
Everything in Self-Study, plus pre-recorded video content covering every training day.
Both formats are available in English, German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Both include built-in quizzes, 2 PECB exam attempts, 31 CPD credits on completion, your first year of PECB's annual maintenance fee, a free 60-minute 1-on-1 session with a PECB Certified Trainer, and email and WhatsApp support until exam clearance. Recognition and credibility
PECB serves professionals in more than 150 countries, and its candidate handbook specifies this certification scheme in compliance with ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for bodies certifying persons. Your credential is issued by PECB, not by reconn.
It is a professional certification, not a government license. Whether a specific employer, regulator or tender accepts it is their decision, so check with them if it matters for your role.
No. The credential certifies you as an individual and shows professional competence. It does not by itself make an organization compliant, and it is not legal advice. Compliance depends on what your organization actually does, so confirm your obligations with qualified legal counsel.
No. The course teaches you to apply the EU AI Act in practice as a governance and compliance professional. It does not make you a lawyer, and the credential is not a license to practice law. For legal opinions on your specific situation, work with qualified legal counsel.
The EU AI Act is a law, and ISO/IEC 42001 is a voluntary international standard for an AI management system. They are different things. ISO/IEC 42001 is not a harmonised standard under the EU AI Act, and certification against it does not demonstrate legal compliance by itself. You can study both: the Act for what is required, the standard for how to run AI governance. See the ISO 42001 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor courses.
reconn is an authorized international reseller and training partner of PECB. Your exam runs on PECB’s exam app and PECB issues your certificate. You can verify our status with PECB at support@pecb.com.
reconn is operated by Reconn Technology LLC in Dubai and Reconn Digital FZE in Sharjah, UAE, and our contact details are in the page footer.
Several training providers advertise PECB courses to win your search, then steer buyers toward a different, mass-market certificate program instead of the PECB credential. Before you pay, ask for written proof that the provider is authorized by PECB, and get the exact credential name in writing: "PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional", issued by PECB, not by the provider.
You should sit the exam on the PECB Exams app. A provider-run exam or a provider-issued certificate is not a PECB credential. Treat "guaranteed pass" claims, or pressure to switch to an "equivalent" program, as red flags, because PECB sets and grades its own exams.
About the course
The PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional credential shows that you can apply the EU AI Act in practice: determine whether and how it applies to an organization, classify AI systems, put governance, risk, data and documentation arrangements in place, and monitor compliance across the AI life cycle.
PECB designed it for governance and compliance leads, legal, compliance and privacy professionals, IT, security and technical staff, data scientists, engineers and AI developers, consultants, managers overseeing AI initiatives, and executives managing AI-related risk.
The prerequisite is a fundamental understanding of AI or digital technologies. No legal qualification is listed, and you do not need to be a data scientist or a developer.
No. Prior experience is not required to enroll or to sit the exam. If you have no experience yet, you can still pass the exam and apply for the Provisional credential. See the course details for what each credential level requires.
PECB’s agenda has four training days and the exam. Day 1 covers EU AI Act foundations, applicability and risk classification. Day 2 covers AI governance, general-purpose AI and risk management. Day 3 covers documentation, human oversight and compliance formalization. Day 4 covers compliance formalization. Day 5 is the exam.
Yes. The exam domains cover classifying AI systems under the EU AI Act risk framework, mapping obligations to a system’s classification and your role, and implementing quality, risk, data governance and technical requirements for high-risk AI systems.
Yes. You learn how to determine whether an AI model or system qualifies as general-purpose AI, and what applies to general-purpose AI models with systemic risk.
Yes. Domain 5 covers technical documentation and records, human oversight, transparency, AI literacy, conformity assessment, CE marking, registration, fundamental rights impact assessments and regulatory notification.
It covers the EU data protection requirements relevant to AI systems and personal data processing, as part of the EU regulations that apply to AI. It is not a GDPR course.
The course content is PECB’s official courseware, and the EU AI Act is being phased in. Deadlines and sector rules can change, so confirm current dates with the official sources or qualified legal counsel. If you have a question about how the course handles a change, message us on WhatsApp.
This course teaches you to work with the EU AI Act: scope, roles, risk classification, obligations, documentation and oversight. The ISO 42001 Lead Implementer course teaches you to build and run an AI management system, and Lead Auditor teaches you to assess one.
This page offers Self-Study in English. For other formats or team training, message us on WhatsApp or email hello@reconn.io.
The exam
The exam has 80 multiple-choice questions, and the passing score is 70%. Each question has three options with one correct answer. It is open-book, but 47.5% of the questions test evaluation, and the rest test comprehension, application and analysis. Many are scenario-based, with five questions per scenario, so you need to apply the Act, not just find it.
The exam covers six domains: EU AI Act foundations and regulatory context (12.5%), applicability, scope and role determination (18.75%), organizational governance and compliance planning (11.25%), management systems, risk, data and technical controls (21.25%), documentation, transparency and compliance formalization (23.75%), and compliance monitoring and life cycle management (12.5%). The course details show the full breakdown.
It is an open-book exam. You may use a copy of the EU AI Act (on the PECB Exams app or printed), the course materials and your own course notes. Secondary electronic devices such as phones and tablets are not allowed.
Yes. The exam is taken online through the PECB Exams app and supervised remotely, so you sit it from your own location at a date and time that suit you. You schedule it through PECB, not through reconn.
You need a device with an external or integrated camera, a stable internet connection and a valid identity document: a national ID card, driver’s license or passport. Be present at least 30 minutes before the exam starts, because late arrivals get no extra time and may not be allowed to sit the exam. A PECB invigilator supervises you remotely.
If you take the exam in a non-native language and ask on the day of the exam, PECB can give you additional time. The amount depends on the exam type, so check the List of PECB Exams or contact PECB.
Yes. PECB makes reasonable accommodations for candidates with special needs and temporary conditions. You apply through your myPECB dashboard when you enroll for the exam, and PECB treats the information you give confidentially.
For online multiple-choice exams, you receive your results instantly. If you do not pass, PECB emails you a list of the domains where you performed poorly, to help you prepare for a retake.
Your reconn package includes one free retake, which you need to use within 12 months of your purchase date. PECB does not limit the number of times you can retake an exam, but it limits the time between retakes, and retakes beyond the included one follow PECB’s own rules and fees. See PECB’s Examination Rules and Policies for the current terms.
Yes. If you disagree with the evaluation, you can request a re-evaluation within 30 days of receiving your results. If you are still not satisfied, you can file an appeal through the PECB Ticketing System within 30 days of the re-evaluation decision. Appeals filed after 30 days are not processed.
PECB publishes a sample scenario with five questions in the EU AI Governance Professional candidate handbook, which you can find through the PECB course page. reconn does not supply exam questions, and sharing exam content is a violation of PECB’s Code of Ethics.
PECB allows candidates to take the exam without attending a training course. Most candidates take the course because it covers the material the exam is built on. Buying through reconn gives you the courseware, your exam attempts, the certification application fee, a 1-on-1 session and support in one package.
Certification and maintenance
Passing the exam makes you eligible to apply for one of two credentials: PECB Certified Provisional EU AI Governance Professional (no experience required) or PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional (5 years of professional experience including 2 in AI governance, and 300 hours of project activities). Both require you to sign the PECB Code of Ethics.
Activities that follow best practice in six areas: establishing governance structures, roles and accountability; identifying and classifying AI systems based on risk; implementing risk management and mitigation; ensuring data governance and regulatory alignment; maintaining documentation and enabling effective human oversight; and monitoring, reporting and continuously improving AI systems. PECB checks your project log for the required hours.
After you pass, you create your PECB account, confirm your email, log in and click Apply for Certificate. The application fee is included in your reconn package. Every application needs two professional references who have worked with you and can confirm your expertise. People who report to you and relatives are not valid references. If your documentation is incomplete, PECB can give you time to supply it, or it may award a lower credential.
The course follows PECB’s structure of four training days plus the exam, and you work through it at your own pace. The right pace depends on your schedule. All certification activities must be finished within 12 months of your purchase date.
PECB closes the case. You can ask to reopen it by writing to PECB’s certification team and paying the required fee, but PECB is no longer responsible for changes to the conditions, standards and policies that applied before the case closed. It is simplest to finish your exam attempts, application and certificate inside the window.
PECB certifications are valid for three years. To keep yours active you submit continuing professional development (CPD) hours and pay PECB’s annual maintenance fee. Your first year is included in your reconn package. If you miss the CPD or fee submission, PECB gives you a 12-month suspension period to fix it, and the certification can be revoked after that. See PECB’s Certification Maintenance page for current requirements and fees.
Yes. You can upgrade online from your PECB dashboard by choosing View Certificate and then Upgrade, for example from the Provisional credential to the full credential as your experience grows. The requirements and fees are on PECB’s Certification Maintenance page.
Access, support and training options
Once you enroll, reconn activates your PECB account and sends you access instructions, same day. You open the course materials online and schedule your exam on the PECB Exams app.
Every enrollment includes a free 60-minute 1-on-1 session with Shenoy Sandeep, a PECB Certified Trainer, plus email and WhatsApp support until exam clearance, within your 12-month window. Use the session for study planning, role determination and risk classification practice, governance planning and career direction.
Book a slot that suits your time zone, or message us on WhatsApp if none fits.
No. No provider can guarantee a pass, because PECB sets and grades the exam. reconn also does not supply exam questions. What you get is the official courseware, 2 exam attempts, a 1-on-1 session and support until you clear your exam.
