Every Self-Study and eLearning purchase from reconn includes a free 60-minute 1-on-1 session with Shenoy Sandeep, a PECB Certified Trainer and ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Implementer with 20+ years in cybersecurity and 10+ years in enterprise AI. Book it any time after enrollment.
It is not a source of exam questions, and it is not a pass guarantee. PECB sets, administers and grades every exam.
You also get email and WhatsApp support directly from your trainer until you have cleared your exam, within your 12-month enrollment window. No ticket queue.
Lead Implementer teaches you to build and run an AI management system. Lead Auditor teaches you to assess one. Taking both gives you both perspectives, which helps if you consult, advise or work in governance and assurance. Impartiality still applies: auditors should not audit a management system they implemented.
The certificate is issued by PECB, so it is the same whichever authorized partner you buy from. The difference is what surrounds it: price, guidance and support.

You study PECB's official courseware through the MyPECB portal, with built-in quizzes, and sit the proctored exam on the PECB Exams app when you are ready. The course teaches you to build, manage and continually improve an AI management system, and prepares you for the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer credential.
Your enrollment window: your exam attempts, certification application and certificate must all be completed within 12 months of your enrollment date with reconn.
The PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer credential shows that you can plan, implement, maintain and continually improve an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS) based on ISO/IEC 42001, and prepare an organization for a certification audit. The course follows PECB's IMS2 implementation methodology, from project approval through monitoring and improvement.
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the first international standard for AI management systems. It sets out what an organization needs in place to govern AI responsibly across its lifecycle, and organizations can be certified against it. The Lead Implementer is the person who runs the implementation project: scoping, AI policy, risk assessment, controls, documentation, monitoring and preparing for the audit.
The focus is implementation and management, not AI engineering. You need a general understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and AI concepts, but you do not need to be a data scientist or a developer.
AI now sits inside almost every industry: in customer service, hiring, fraud detection, healthcare, software development and operations. The same systems can introduce risks that traditional IT controls do not cover, such as biased outputs, opaque decisions, privacy exposure, security weaknesses and dependence on third-party models and data.
Customers, boards and regulators are asking organizations to show that they manage those risks deliberately. An AI management system gives them a structured, repeatable way to do it: a clear AI policy, a risk assessment process, defined controls and roles, monitoring and continual improvement. People who can set that up are in demand, and the Lead Implementer credential is built to prove you can.
ISO/IEC 42001 is voluntary. It does not by itself demonstrate legal compliance with laws such as the EU AI Act, and rules differ by country, so organizations should confirm their obligations with qualified legal counsel.

Shenoy Sandeep
Founder of reconn · Dubai, UAE
Shenoy Sandeep is the founder of reconn, an AI-first cybersecurity firm based in Dubai, UAE. He has 20+ years in cybersecurity, focused on offensive security and threat intelligence, and 10+ years in enterprise AI, AI governance and data protection. He is one of the world's early PECB-certified AI professionals and also works with ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, ISO 22301 and GDPR.
Not a slide reader. A practitioner.
The course content is PECB's official courseware, so the curriculum and exam are identical whoever you buy from. Shenoy's part is the support around it:
Adapted to your background. From tech, you go deeper on tools, terminology and how AI systems work. From governance, risk or compliance, he keeps it in plain language and focuses on how to run the implementation project.
From your trainer until you clear your exam, within your 12-month enrollment window.
Drawn from hands-on AI governance, security and ISO implementation work, so the standard makes sense outside the slides.
The Lead Implementer course is right for you if you will be responsible for setting up and running an AI management system, or if you advise organizations that do. If your job is to assess an AI management system independently, the Lead Auditor course is the better fit.
PECB's course materials describe 6 to 12 months from the start of the project to the first cycle of audits and monitoring, and shorter for a limited scope in a less complex environment. Your timeline depends on organizational maturity, scope, regulatory pressure and top management support.

Recognition and credibility
PECB is a personnel certification body accredited under ISO/IEC 17024 by IAS, UKAS and the Korea Accreditation Board, and it serves professionals in more than 150 countries. Your credential is issued by PECB, not by reconn.
It is a professional certification, not a government license. Whether a specific employer, regulator or tender accepts it is their decision, so check with them if it matters for your role.
Yes. As of August 18, 2026, UKAS has extended PECB's accreditation under ISO/IEC 17024:2012 to include the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor personnel certification schemes, and PECB is the first certification body in the world accredited by UKAS to certify people who implement and audit AI systems. The accreditation applies to PECB's certification scheme, not to training courses or to reconn.
The definitive scope is set out in PECB's UKAS schedule of accreditation, and PECB publishes the accreditation certificate on its accreditations page.
No. ISO/IEC 42001 is a voluntary international standard. It is not a harmonised standard under the EU AI Act, and neither the standard nor this credential demonstrates legal compliance by itself, in the EU or in any other country.
What the course gives you is the skill to implement an AI management system, which organizations can use as part of a wider governance program. Rules differ by country, so confirm your obligations with qualified legal counsel.
Day 1 covers standards and regulatory frameworks, and the exam tests your knowledge of the EU's system for classifying AI systems by risk level. The course teaches you to implement an AI management system, not to give legal advice. For your specific legal obligations, confirm with qualified legal counsel.
No. The Lead Implementer credential certifies you as an individual. An organization is certified against ISO/IEC 42001 by a certification body after an audit. The course prepares you to get an organization ready for that audit, including how to choose a certification body.
reconn is an authorized international reseller and training partner of PECB. Your course runs on PECB's own MyPECB portal, your exam runs on PECB's exam app, and PECB issues your certificate. You can verify our status with PECB at support@pecb.com.
reconn is operated by Reconn Technology LLC in Dubai and Reconn Digital FZE in Sharjah, UAE, and our contact details are in the page footer.
Several training providers advertise PECB courses to win your search, then steer buyers toward a different, mass-market certificate program instead of the PECB credential. Before you pay, ask for written proof that the provider is authorized by PECB, and get the exact credential name in writing: "PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer", issued by PECB, not by the provider.
You should study on MyPECB and sit the exam on the PECB Exams app. A provider-run exam or a provider-issued certificate is not a PECB credential. Treat "guaranteed pass" claims, or pressure to switch to an "equivalent" program, as red flags, because PECB sets and grades its own exams.
About the course
The PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer credential shows that you can plan, implement, maintain and continually improve an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS) based on ISO/IEC 42001, and prepare an organization for a certification audit. ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the first international standard for AI management systems.
It suits managers responsible for AI governance, consultants who guide clients through an implementation, IT and cybersecurity professionals moving into AI governance, ISO 27001 and other management-system implementers adding ISO 42001, risk and compliance professionals, and AI and data teams who need to understand the governance requirements around what they build. If your job is to assess a management system independently, the Lead Auditor course is a better fit.
No. You need a general understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and AI concepts, but you do not need to be a data scientist or a developer. The course focuses on implementation and management, and its first domain covers AI fundamentals, including machine learning, deep learning, neural networks and the terminology of ISO/IEC 22989.
No. Prior implementation experience is not required to enroll or to sit the exam. If you have no implementation experience, you can still pass the exam and apply for the Provisional Implementer credential. See the course details for the experience each credential level requires.
Day 1 introduces ISO/IEC 42001 and how to initiate an AIMS implementation. Day 2 covers the implementation plan: context, scope, analysis of the existing system, AI policy, AI risk management and the Statement of Applicability. Day 3 covers implementing the AIMS: controls, documented information, communication, competence and awareness, and AI operations. Day 4 covers monitoring, internal audit, management review, nonconformities, continual improvement and preparing for the certification audit. Day 5 is the exam.
IMS2 stands for Integrated Implementation Methodology for Management Systems and Standards. It is PECB's best-practice method for implementing a management system, based on ISO guidelines, and it meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 42001. The project is divided into phases, steps, activities and tasks, which the course presents in the order of a real implementation project. You adapt it to your organization's size, context and objectives.
PECB's course materials describe 6 to 12 months from the start of the project to the first cycle of audits and monitoring, and shorter for a limited scope in a less complex environment. Your timeline depends on organizational maturity, scope, regulatory pressure and top management support.
PECB's ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 Lead Implementer courses both use the IMS2 methodology and follow the same five-day flow, from initiation and planning to implementation, monitoring and certification audit preparation. If you have implemented ISO 27001, the approach will feel familiar. What is new is the AI-specific content: AI concepts, AI risk management, the AI policy and the ISO/IEC 42001 controls.
Lead Implementer teaches you to build and run an AI management system. Lead Auditor teaches you to assess and verify one. Both carry official PECB certification, and the right choice depends on your role. See the ISO 42001 Lead Auditor course or the Lead Implementer + Lead Auditor bundle. Impartiality still applies: auditors should not audit a management system they implemented.
The ISO 42001 Foundation course introduces the standard and its concepts. Lead Implementer goes further: it teaches you to plan and run an implementation project, and it leads to the PECB implementer credentials. If you are new to ISO/IEC 42001, Foundation is a good starting point.
ISO/IEC 42001 is built around governing AI responsibly across its lifecycle. The course covers the AI policy, AI risk management, selecting, designing and implementing controls, documented information, competence and awareness, and the management of AI operations, then monitoring, internal audit, management review and continual improvement.
The exam
The exam has 80 multiple-choice questions, and the passing score is 70%. Each question has three options with one correct answer. It is open-book, but about 60% of the questions test evaluation, and the rest test comprehension, application and analysis. Many are scenario-based, with five questions per scenario, so you need to apply the standard, not just find it.
Domains 3 and 4, planning and implementing an AIMS, carry the most weight at 47.5% of the exam.
The exam covers six domains: fundamental principles and concepts of an AI management system (21.25%), the AI management system itself (6.25%), planning an AIMS implementation (25%), implementing an AIMS (22.5%), monitoring and measurement of an AIMS (12.5%), and continual improvement and preparation for an AIMS certification audit (12.5%). The course details show the full breakdown.
It is an open-book exam. You may use a hard copy of ISO/IEC 42001, the course materials (on the PECB Exams app or printed) and your own course notes. Secondary electronic devices such as phones and tablets are not allowed.
Yes. The exam is taken online through the PECB Exams app and supervised remotely, so you sit it from your own location at a date and time that suit you. You schedule it through PECB, not through reconn.
You need a device with an external or integrated camera, a stable internet connection and a valid identity document: a national ID card, driver's license or passport. Be present at least 30 minutes before the exam starts, because late arrivals get no extra time and may not be allowed to sit the exam. A PECB invigilator supervises you remotely.
If you take the exam in a non-native language and ask on the day of the exam, PECB can give you 30 additional minutes for a Lead exam.
Yes. PECB makes reasonable accommodations for candidates with special needs and temporary conditions. You apply through your myPECB dashboard when you enroll for the exam, and PECB treats the information you give confidentially.
For online multiple-choice exams, you receive your results instantly. If you do not pass, PECB emails you a list of the domains where you performed poorly, to help you prepare for a retake.
Your reconn package includes one free retake, which you need to use within 12 months of your enrollment date. PECB does not limit the number of times you can retake an exam, but it limits the time between retakes, and retakes beyond the included one follow PECB's own rules and fees. See PECB's Examination Rules and Policies for the current terms.
Yes. If you disagree with the evaluation, you can request a re-evaluation within 30 days of receiving your results. If you are still not satisfied, you can file an appeal through the PECB Ticketing System within 30 days of the re-evaluation decision. Appeals filed after 30 days are not processed.
PECB publishes a sample scenario with five questions in the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer candidate handbook. reconn does not supply exam questions, and sharing exam content is a violation of PECB's Code of Ethics.
PECB allows candidates to take the exam without attending a training course. Most candidates take the course because it covers the material the exam is built on. Buying through reconn gives you the courseware, your exam attempts, the certification application fee, a 1-on-1 session and support in one package.
Certification and maintenance
Passing the exam makes you eligible to apply for one of four credentials: Provisional Implementer (no experience required), Implementer (2 years of professional experience including 1 year in AI management, and 200 hours of project activities), Lead Implementer (5 years including 2 in AI management, and 300 hours) or Senior Lead Implementer (10 years including 7 in AI management, and 1,000 hours). Every level requires you to sign the PECB Code of Ethics.
Activities that follow best implementation and management practice, such as drafting an AIMS implementation plan, managing AIMS implementation projects, implementing the AIMS, managing documented information, implementing corrective actions, monitoring AIMS performance and managing an AIMS implementation team. PECB checks your project log for the required hours.
After you pass, you create your PECB account, confirm your email, log in and click Apply for Certificate. The application fee is included in your reconn package. Every application needs two professional references who have worked with you and can confirm your expertise. People who report to you and relatives are not valid references. If your documentation is incomplete, PECB can give you time to supply it, or it may award a lower credential.
The course follows PECB's structure of four training days plus the certification exam, and you work through it at your own pace. Most learners spread it over a few weeks around work, but the right pace depends on your schedule. All certification activities must be finished within 12 months of your enrollment date.
PECB closes the case. You can ask to reopen it by writing to PECB's certification team and paying the required fee, but PECB is no longer responsible for changes to the conditions, standards and policies that applied before the case closed. It is simplest to finish your exam attempts, application and certificate inside the window.
PECB certifications are valid for three years. To keep yours active you submit continuing professional development (CPD) hours and pay PECB's annual maintenance fee. Your first year is included in your reconn package. If you miss the CPD or fee submission, PECB gives you a 12-month suspension period to fix it, and the certification can be revoked after that. See PECB's Certification Maintenance page for current requirements and fees.
Yes. You can upgrade online from your PECB dashboard by choosing View Certificate and then Upgrade, for example from Provisional Implementer to Implementer or Lead Implementer as your experience grows. The upgrade requirements and fees are on PECB's Certification Maintenance page.
Access, support and training options
Once you enroll, reconn activates your PECB account and sends you access instructions, same day. You open all course materials through the MyPECB portal and schedule your exam on the PECB Exams app.
